Has Shopify become the undisputed king of ecommerce platforms over the past decade?

According to recent surveys, 58% of respondents said they plan to open a second or even third online business within the next five years – which is certainly encouraging news for entrepreneurs!

Gone are the days when you had to invest in an established e-tailer like Amazon. In fact, nearly half of all respondents who have started an online venture say that they have chosen Shopify because it provides them with greater flexibility and control over their business model – something that cannot be said for Amazon’s platform!

At present, Shopify boasts a commanding lead over its rivals. The company boasts a formidable 73% market share in ecommerce platforms; whereas it trails behind only 74% for Google Sites and 75% for Facebook Pages as more than one in three survey respondents cited them as their preferred choice among ecommerce solutions. Despite being the dominant force in ecommerce platforms, there remain numerous opportunities for growth. An impressive 59% of survey takers indicated that they intend to make their next purchase on a site other than Amazon; however, this figure drops significantly at just 24% when faced with potential alternatives such as Walmart. Furthermore, while 30% might choose Google Sites over other options – only 21% went with Facebook Pages!
